To Compile & Publish Gazetteer and such related Schemes. A Gazetteer literally means a geographical index or a geographical dictionary. Its scope is however much wider. It presents within a limited range and in a readable manner, a comprehensive view of the state and its people. It provides authentic information on the physical features of the region, related history and discusses its social, political and economic life of the people inhabiting the region.

Brief History and background
Goa Gazetteer was established in the year 1970. It deals with the work of compilation and publication of Gazetteer and Trials of freedom fighters under ‘Source Material for the History of Freedom Movement of Goa’. Department is headed by the Executive Editor.
Department has published “Gazetteer of the Union Territory Goa Daman and Diu” in two parts (First Edition in 1979, reprinted in 2009), two volumes of “Who’s Who of Freedom Fighters” and Trials of Freedom Fighters. Trials are translated into English from the Portuguese files preserved in Goa Archives and published in book form.
